The Municipality of Cerisano and Palazzo Sersale

Cerisano is a municipality of about 3200 inhabitants at 600 meters of altitude. It is located a few kilometers from Cosenza, at the foot of Mount Cocuzzo. The historic center is characterized by several monuments and houses numerous churches, including the Church of San Lorenzo Martire, which has medieval origins, the Church of San Domenico, which preserves several works of art and the church of the Schiucchi, which, according to tradition, has Byzantine origins. It is assumed that Cerisano was founded by the Enotre in pre-Hellenic age with the name Citerium. In 1247 it was recorded in the records of the Angioinian taxation. In 1583, the fief passed to the Sersale family, from which the homonymous Palace was named. The Palazzo Sersale, dominating the entire village, it was built at the end of the 16th century by the Gaeta family and was subsequently owned by Telesio and then by Sersale. The Palace, which still preserves the cloister and the original garden, hosts various events each year, including the musical performances of the Festival delle Serre.

Objectives

The course aims primarily to promote the cultural growth of the participants, as well as the sociality and discovery of the opportunities offered by UniCal and DisU.

In particular, the course aims to:

  • create and promote training opportunities in the specific areas of entertainment and communication languages;
  • create opportunities for direct comparison and exchange with industry professionals;
  • offer practical/laboratory experiences in the context of entertainment and communication languages.

The territory is the bearer of visible and invisible riches of which the theatre can be reverberated as it is a place of sharing experiences. The projects of theatre and territory are built together with local interlocutors (administrations, institutions, associations) and on the basis of characteristics and territorial needs, also with possible connections with other disciplines. The course responds to the need to experience theatre outside its traditional places, involving in its processes non-professional people who inhabit the territory, without distinction, promoting audience development and active citizenship, the creation of a collective dramaturgy that springs from the places and people that inhabit them, encouraging awareness of historical memory and community empowerment.

The theoretical teachings are carried out by scholars and scholars who deal with interdisciplinary contemporary research and experimentation (theatre, music, communication, organization). The workshops are conducted by professionals from the sectors identified in the theoretical meetings. The course aims to answer the question of new skills required by the contemporary scene. The multidisciplinary approach offers an innovative preparation in the activities related to artistic, design and technical practices and to theatrical care and communication, ideal ground for exploring and acting a collective reflection on the complexity of the contemporary human and social condition. Combining theory and practice the Course realizes the attempt to systematize a look capable of offering students a performing intelligence of reality.
