CERIS With 100% of the Pnrr funds spent and reported on 30 June 2026, compared with a national average of 33% for the same measure, the village of Cerisano, in the Cosentino, becomes a laboratory for the regeneration of the European suburbs.

The Left Group of the European Parliament will hold a debate on the future of the suburbs in the centre of Calabria. The results were achieved thanks to the project "Cerisano Factory – Borgo Swing" (Investiment 2.1, Mission 1, Component 3, Line B), funded by the Ministry of Culture under the National Plan villages supported by Next Generation EU.

In two years the initiative has activated collaborations with the Conservatory "Stanislao Giacomantonio" of Cosenza for courses in applied music, electronics and sound technician at Palazzo Sersale, and with the University of Calabria for a Level II Master in Organization, Leadership and Human Resource Management. Other activities include the School of Political Education with Asprom, the Desf Summer School, the Astro Summer Camp and the artistic initiatives with the Icsaic dedicated to Michel Fingesten.

On the economic and social front, the plan has recorded more than 31 thousand presences in the recent editions of the Festival delle Serre, the involvement of more than 100 local technicians and the opening of new business and accommodation in the historical center. «European funds have produced real economy – said the mayor of Cerisano Lucio Di Gioia – and allowed to build a growth path based on culture, research and training. The fact that the European Parliament has chosen our municipality confirms the validity of a model that can be replicated in other Italian villages».
