The historian of Wisdom Umberto Gentiloni Silveri christens the prestigious initiative promoted by the Municipality together with the Association for Development and Promotion of the South
It was the historian of Wisdom, Umberto Gentiloni Silveri, to keep to baptism in Palazzo Sersale di Cerisano, the Asprom School of Policy, the Association for Development and Promotion of the Mezzogiorno directed by Domenico Talarico. In the small centre of the Serre Cosentine, the lessons will go on following a tight schedule divided into two modules. The first will last until 23 May. The second is scheduled from 5 to 27 June. Among the teachers expected, among others, Gherardo Colombo, Marco Follini and Ambassador Marco Carnelos.
Innovative and original experience
«The first part of this path – underlines Domenico Talarico – is focused on the birth of the Republic and its evolution. The second section of the future of democracy. It is an innovative and original experiment, at least regarding Calabria. Through this tool – added the Director of the School of Politics – I think we can help reduce the educational and cultural deficit, who participates or aspires to participate in public life. It is also an opportunity to sediment, fertilize public space through a quality training that offers different points of view and that interlocates through different cultures and experiences».
Virtuous collaboration
Then there is the non-secondary element of the collaboration between the Association and the Municipality of Cerisano. And also the active involvement of young people «that manifest – said Talarico – a growing thirst for knowledge and of comparison on the great national and international issues. Today we are witnessing a public life, that policy in particular, shouted, often vulgar, devoid of content, which also reveals a lack of knowledge. This is a harm, it is an obvious limit for our democracy that is increasingly reluctant, increasingly reluctant, arida. The contrast often develops through personal disputes and through even harsh dialogues on the media. On the other hand, we must recover a higher, more qualified, more cultured dimension».
80 years of Italian Republic
The presentation of the book 2 June, written by Umberto Gentiloni Silveri, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic, completed the inaugural day. To the debate, moderated by the local leader of the Pd Saviour Day, also participated the prefect of Cosenza Rosa Maria Padovano. In his inaugural lesson, the professor of the prestigious Capitoline University highlighted the fundamental aspects of the season of the origins of the Republic, also seeking the reasons that impose the presentization, recalling that eighty years «Depending on the points of view, they may be a relatively short or relatively long period. I do not believe that the constitutional foundations – he added in dialogue with our network – are in danger. On the contrary, it seems to me that the Constitution is also defended with energy on different occasions. All in all I believe that the methods of development of mechanisms of democracy of the parties we have behind us, are still valid. Then it will be a matter of understanding whether those initial foundations are also able to develop in the near future».
Borgo Swing
The school of politics is one of the activities promoted by the administration of Cerisano in the context of the project Borgo Swing, for the revitalization of the old town: «This is an experience that is borrowed from great realities, from Rome, Milan, Turin – commented the mayor of Cerisano Lucio Di Gioia – In a small village of Calabria succeeding in bringing so many professionals, so many illustrious thinkers is really a reason for pride. And it is also a valid attempt to form the leadership classes of tomorrow. The school of politics has above all this: discussing, discussing great themes, drawing paths that can then become tools available to those who want to take an experience and devote themselves to public affairs».
